BMW is bringing a new coupe version of its i3 electric car to be shown off at the 2012 LA Auto Show, and the company has just released all the details.
Along with the other i electric cars from BMW, the concept coupe uses a carbon-fiber body that incorporates BMW’s ”stream flow” design language. The coupe uses a 170 hp electric engine that puts out 184 lb-ft of torque to the real wheels through a single-speed transmission. The lithium-ion batteries are mounted under the floor, giving the i3 coupe a low center of gravity to help keep it planted.
Overall range is expected to be 100 miles on a single charge according to BMW.
The i3 Concept Coupe rides on the same platform as the standard i3, but appears a little lower and wider than its five door counterpart.
The interior of the i3 Concept Coupe is designed to feel spacious and have a lounge-style ambiance. Leather, wool and other renewable raw materials are used throughout to make the car eco-friendly, along with wood that is guaranteed to come from certified sustainably managed European forests. Two display screen are mounted in the interior, a 6.6-inch screen for driver info, and a 8.8-inch screen for the center stack.
Comfort, Eco, and Eco Pro driving modes are available, depending on what is needed by the driver. The i3 will even suggest which mode to drive in based on how much power you have, and if you have imputed a destination into the nav system, where you are going.
