Professional racers have a mental gift that gets them around tracks in record times, and now we might learn what gives them the edge. This past Saturday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, a team of Stanford professors monitored drivers’ brain activity while they raced vintage machines around the world famous road course.
The team’s initial tests have supported the hypothesis that tasks like correcting a skid are reflexive or intuitive for skilled drivers, meaning, they don’t expect to see neurons firing during those times
