It’s been seven years since Andy Pilgrim captured a championship for Cadillac in the Pirelli World Challenge Series, but the drought is over for the American luxury automaker.
At the season-ending Cadillac Sonoma Grand Prix, Cadillac drivers Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell may not have won the battle, but they won the war. Pilgrim took a second place finish at the race, while O’Connell finished fifth, but Cadillac took home the Manufacturer’s Title along with a one-two finish in the 2012 GT driver standings.
O’Connell finished the season with the Driver’s Championship with Pilgrim finishing in second. It is O’Connell’s first Pirelli World Challenge title. The pair of CTS-V.R race cars have been the definition of reliable throughout the season and all the hard work the team put in during the offseason has paid off.
“Coming into the weekend, I’m just so proud of the whole team and Johnny,” Pilgrim said. “We got Manufacturers, he got the Driver’s Championship, and if I can’t get the Driver’s Championship, finishing second behind him to me is like winning the championship also.”
