Honda Ups Target 25% on Strong Civic, CR-V Sales

Back in January, Hondatargeted 1.02 million in vehicle sales for the 2012 year in the US, but the Japanese automaker is now optimistic that it’ll sell almost 1.3 million units this year.

Honda’s sales have bounced back after a couple of weak years, much of it due to the earthquake and tsunami damage in Japan, and the massive floods in Thailand back in 2011. Undoubtedly the automaker’s production was hindered from the natural disasters, and even in February Honda had only achieved about 60-percent of the inventory it would normally carry at that time of the year.

Thankfully now that production has been restored to status quo, the Japanese automaker has seen satisfying increases in sales, especially from its redesigned CR-V and Civic models. In fact, Honda is optimistic that the CR-V will set record sales this year. Currently the record of CR-Vs sold in a single calendar year is 219,000 from 2007. 167,326 CR-Vs have been sold through July.

And despite all the negative press surrounding the Civic model, it remains the number-one selling compact car in the U.S. this year with 192,175 units sold. That’s a 32.5-percent increase from last year. The automaker still plans on updating its Civic model (at least the interior) for the 2013 model year.

Honda’s overall sales have increased 18.5-percent over last year, from 617,862 to 732,165.
