Toyota Auris Touring Sports introduced for Europe

Written By admin on Saturday, March 16, 2013 | 10:19 PM

The Toyota Auris Touring Sports was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this week, the first time Toyota has done a wagon version of its European market C-segment car. It’s an essential model as wagon versions of cars account for 25% of the sales mix for the C-segment in Europe, and this space was served mostly by European marques in the past.
It looks similiar to the sporty Auris hatch from the front, but the steeply raked windscreen flows into an extended roofline featuring anodised aluminium rails and an integrated rear spoiler. The bumper and tailgate have a new design, with the sill set 80mm lower than on the hatchback to facilitate easier loading. The Touring is 285mm longer overall, and maintains the 2,600mm wheelbase.
Because of Toyota’s wide implementation of its Hybrid Synergy Drive system, the Auris Touring Sports will also be available as a hybrid, which Toyota claims makes the Auris Touring Sports the only car available with a full hybrid powertrain in its segment.
It might look like the return of the Toyota Caldina, but the Caldina had a 2,700mm wheelbase, which made it Avensis-sized instead of Auris-sized. Toyota has multiple C-segment wagons now but this is easily the best looking, especially when compared to the mundane-looking Corolla Fielder for JDM sales.
