While automakers use auto shows to reveal new production models, it’s the concept cars that get the most attention. Today we want to know which concept car from the Paris Motor Show is your favorite. Here is a brief overview of some of the concepts that rolled onto the Paris Motor Show floor.
Audi and BMW each introduced a small plug-in hybrid. The Audi Crosslane Coupe concept and BMW Active Tourer PHEV concept are powered by turbo 1.5-liter inline-three cylinder engines with electric motor assists. While the two systems utilize different setups, both are expected to offer outstanding fuel mileage.
If supercars are more your style, McLaren revealed a design study previewing the F1 successor. While powertrain specs of the McLaren P1 weren’t announced, the automaker insists the car will change the supercar game just like its predecessor did two decades ago. The French debuted the Peugeot Onyx supercar, which is powered by 600-hp 3.7-liter V-8 diesel hybrid. And to keep the supercar company, Peugeot also displayed the Superbike Onyx and Supertrike Onyx.
Other concept cars hinted at the future direction of production cars including the Lexus LF-CC concept that previews the next IS sedan and the Suzuki S-Cross compact crossover concept that is the latest all-wheel-drive vehicle designed to tackle the urban lifestyle; while the Volkswagen GTI is close to the production model. The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo shows what a Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake competitor could look like while the electric Smart Forstars sport utility coupe features a hood-scoop-mounted movie projector. Compared to the Smart car, Volkswagen’s clearly production-ready GTI concept barely qualifies as a concept at all.
The hydrogen fuel-cell electric Nissan Terra FCEV Concept sports an electric motor in each rear wheel, giving it all-wheel drive, though the fuel-friendly concept may be better suited for poor weather conditions than serious off-roading.
